Update on BC's new Water Sustainability Act - and a chance to win $100 Alliance bucks!

By now you've heard that BC has a new Water Sustainability Act. After 5 years in the cooker, British Columbia's Bill 18—Water Sustainability Act (WSA) received Royal Assent in May 2014. BUT, although it's officially law, the WSA won't actually come into effect until 2016 after regulations have been developed.

Regulations are the teeth of any piece of legislation. Weak teeth mean no bite - AND a missed opportunity to have this new law actually help us protect BC's freshwater. Public support is critical to advancing strong implementation of the WSA. To get there, we need to be able to connect high-level policy - which let's be honest can be a bit dry even for the keenest among us - with compelling local issues and stories in a way that mobilizes our supporters.

The Canadian Freshwater Alliance is leading a media & community organizing initiative that we hope will drive a strong Act. Throughout 2015, we'll be supporting BC's freshwater community with specific capacity, common messaging, training, and resources to generate regional media attention and mobilize target audiences so that Government develops strong regulations for the WSA. We'll also be working one-on-one with a handful of you (TBD) in key regions to help you really hit your media stride. Help us by answering some questions in our quick media and WSA survey. All surveys completed by Friday, February 6th, 2015 will automatically be entered into a random draw for $100 Alliance Bucks that can be used towards our online intensives and coaching services! Here's the link to the survey - and don't forget to fill it out by Friday, February 6th.
