Meet Our Partners for the Lake Erie Challenge!
Summer is slowly winding down to an end, and the #LakeErieChallenge is just a few weeks away! While the athletes are out on the water doing their thing, the Freshwater Alliance and our amazing event partners will be offering a host of events shoreside.
Read up on our #ChallengeDay event partners and the activities they’ll be running on August 24!
The Twisted Fish Yoga Studio
Event: Yoga On The Beach
The Twisted Fish is a yoga, integrative movement and wellness studio situated in the heart of picturesque Port Dover. With accessibility and affordability at the centre of its mission to provide community classes taught ‘from the ground up’, the twisted fish is an inclusive community where all are encouraged to explore movement and to be true to their own needs, to modify and adapt where necessary and to honour their own brand of spirituality within their practice. Instructors are grounded by experience, are educated not only in the practice and philosophy of yoga but also in the science of movement and form, always learning and sharing how to keep everyone moving longer, stronger and with grace.
Event: Pop-Up Shop and Lake Erie Trivia
Greatful living is a philanthropic apparel line that was built to create awareness around, to restore, and to preserve the Great Lakes. We donate 20% of our proceeds to Great Lake initiatives. As the Great Lakes make up around 20% of our above-ground fresh water, this is what we give back. This will be our 2nd year of involvement in the Lake Erie Challenge. We are very excited to create some buzz around the Great Lakes! We believe that by showing people the beauty of the lakes, we can open their eyes to the urgency of protecting them. As a business, we’ve realized that education is key—what we view as common knowledge, others may not. Greatful Living realizes the importance of finding common ground to meet a common goal. That goal, of course, is to protect our Great Lakes!
Great Art for the Great Lakes
Event: Great Lake Art Display and Mark Making
The Great Art for the Great Lakes (GAGL) project is excited to partner with the Canadian Freshwater Alliance and the Lake Erie Guardians for the Lake Erie Challenge. Together, our collective voice is greater in working to strengthen our relationship with the Great Lakes! In addition to our interactive Great Lakes exhibit, artists Michael Barber and Suzanne Earl will be presenting their participatory projects Water Mother and Depths & Consequences throughout the event.
Cleaning Up Norfolk
Event: Community Beach Clean-Up
Cleaning Up Norfolk's goal is to stop the flow of plastic pollution into the Lake Erie Watershed through Norfolk County community cleanups, education, and advocacy in an effort to protect the wellbeing of all living things. We’ll be running an on-going community beach clean-up from 1pm to 4pm on Challenge Day to keep Port Dover’s Main Beach beautiful and plastic-free!
Sweet B’s Cakes
Event: Celebratory Cake-Cutting Ceremony
Sweet B’s is a boutique cake design studio located in Norwich, ON. Brittany gravitates towards a more feminine style in regards to design, colour and texture. Her passion is in creating unique flavour combinations, while using the freshest, locally sourced ingredients. Sweet B's can’t wait to connect and work alongside an organization who share a love for the environment and most importantly our precious water sources.
Long Point Biosphere
Event: Educational Great Lake Activity and Prize Draw
The Long Point World Biosphere Reserve Foundation is dedicated to conserving biodiversity, promoting sustainable communities, and partnering in research, monitoring, outreach and education. The Long Point World Biosphere Reserve Foundation is very supportive of the Fresh Water Alliance and organizations like it. We are pleased to collaborate in raising awareness for environmental issues in Lake Erie and throughout the Long Point Biosphere. In particular, it is exciting to share how simple it is for each of us to have a positive impact as individuals and as communities.
