Thank you to a Great Lakes Champion
Over the last 9 years, Raj Gill, former Great Lakes Program Director for the Canadian Freshwater Alliance, has championed Great Lakes protection with countless successes and relationships built along the way.
Today we are saying farewell and thank you to Raj as she departs the CFA for new opportunities.
If you live around the Great Lakes and have attended any CFA events: plantings, restorations, the Lake Erie Challenge, Great Lakes Businesses Network meetings, just to name a few, chances are you’ve talked with Raj. As we can all vouch for, a chat with Raj often brought out her passion for water protection and community building, along with a witty sense of humour that we’ll be missing around our virtual office.
For nearly a decade, Raj developed and led programs that creatively took on the issues facing freshwater. Raj helped Lake Erie’s story reach thousands of people and energized them to take action. While these campaigns tackle tough issues like hazardous algal blooms, Raj was also sure to highlight the good news too, always seizing opportunities to celebrate the connections we have with the Great Lakes as individuals and communities.
Although Raj’s time with the CFA has come to and end, we know the impact of her work will continue on through the hundreds of dedicated volunteers and Lake Erie Guardians who learned more about their local waters, all the new plants now growing in our communities, and all of the relationships built across the Great Lakes that inspire us to continue celebrating and protecting the waters we care for most.
Thank you and best of luck on your next chapter, Raj!
